cold weather–
the red of poppies
so far away
Comment: a haiku based on the contrast between the first and the second ku 句 (the ‘cold weather’ and the poppies or keshi 罌粟, i.e. an early summer kigo) and a sensory shift that switches from touch to sight. The distance of these flowers from the poet is both physical and symbolic, reinforcing a sense of melancholic loneliness (wabi 侘) and witnessing a true aesthetic immersion (tanbi 耽美) that leads to the acceptance of the relentless changes in nature.
