Krzysztof Kokot (Poland)

a single cloud–
yachts on the lake
hoisting their sails

Comment: a haiku that compares the whiteness (shiromi 白み) and lightness (karumi 軽み) of the lonely cloud in the first ku 句 with the shapes and colours of the boats’ sails getting hoisted in the second one, giving consistency to a simple yet valuable torihayasi 取はやし (‘harmonizing juxtaposition’). An untold (but clearly present) wind (kaze 風) blows through the poem (see also the ‘s’ sound in line 3), enlivening the entire scene and the placid waters of the lake.
